‘…Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Scribes and Pharisees…’. Jesus uses the Scribes and Pharisees often as his foils as he does today. They follow the letter of the law to the “T”, so we should emulate them. Yes, doing the letter of the law is all well and good, but Jesus makes it clear that he expects me to do more. Not just the letter, but the Spirit of the law. What I am called to do will be different from what you are called to do. So…let’s pray for each other that we surpass the Scribes and Pharisees in our righteousness.
