1st Saturday of Advent December 7, 2024 Judah Symbol=Lion
Judah received a mixed blessing from his dying father, Jacob, in which he was called a lion and great king and told that he would be rich. This prophecy was made in front of his 11 brothers. Quite a lot to live up to. Having expectations heaped upon us by others—parents, teachers, spouses, friends—is complicating. We may not even desire to live up to them because we want other things. Or worse, we may expect too much of ourselves, wanting to be the best or perfect and never feeling successful. Goals are good; we need them, but our goals must be realistic, our own, and arrived at by discernment. Question: What expectations am I trying to live up to that I don’t even want? Gen 49: 8-12
