Isaiah tell us that God waters the earth, and life springs up. And so with the Lord’s words, they are life-giving, too. But words must be used well. Jesus, in today’s gospel, tells is not to prattle on with a lot of words when we pray. God already knows what we need. It may not be what we want, but it is what we need. Jesus gives the Our Father to his disciples telling them “this is how you are to pray.” My aunt told my cousins not to pray this prayer everyday lest they just prattle out the words and not listen to what they are actually praying. Pretty heavy for kids, but she was right. Think about what and how you pray, your words can be live-giving, too. Try using a labyrinth.
