2nd Friday of Advent December 13, 2024 David Symbol=Shepherd
David was the youngest of Jesse’s eight sons. He was a shepherd and was an afterthought when Samuel came to Jesse to anoint one of his sons as king. David was pretty good with a harp and slingshot and became a great king but was a deeply flawed man. Aren’t we all flawed! None of us are perfect diamonds. But flaws refract light differently. They can surprise us with other qualities. Don’t be hard on yourself or others just because you and they are flawed. Recognize the gifts in yourself and others. Maybe you can’t dunk a basketball or sing an aria, but instead you make a yummy soup or actually understand how to fill out a 1040 tax form. Everyone screws up, are flawed, and yet are talented. You might be surprised by someone you discounted before. Who knows, you might even surprise yourself. Question: Am I gentle with other and myself when flaws are discovered? 1 Sam 16:1-13
