Peter was out of his head–wanting to build tents and stay forever on the mountain top. He wanted to capture that moment and live in it always. Can’t really blame him. Why go back to the ordinary of daily life after such an experience as the Transfiguration? Well, it’s because we have to. No matter how wonderful the vacation, or any special occasion we have to go back. But that does not mean that we go back to being exactly who we were. We are changed, and that change must now be reflected in how we go about our ordinary lives. Think of the transfiguration as a booster shot. Sometimes God gives us a jolt, blessings if you will, to keep us going and to remind us just how deeply we are loved. So, enjoy the mountain top moments–they are blessings–but you can’t stay there. You must grow.
