2nd Tuesday of Lent

What a strange directive we get today! ‘Call no one on Earth you father.’ Goodness but that sounds harsh! Are we being told to not love and respect our fathers? Isn’t that against the Commandments? I think to myself, smiling as I do so, “I’m okay because I called my father ‘Daddy’!” But I don’t get off that easily. No, I’m guessing I’m just supposed to remember at all life, all gifts come from God, the parent of all creation. God, the Father, is to be emulated, not like those looking for special treatment and important titles as do the Scribes of today’s Gospel. My dad, an upright and humble man, earned the title ‘Father’ by the way he lived his life and how good a parent he was.
