9.) December 7, 2020 Passover and Exodus Ex 12:21-23
Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and procure lambs for your families, and slaughter the Passover victims. Then take a bunch of hyssop, and dipping it in the blood that is in the basin, apply some of this blood to the lintel and the two doorposts. And none of you shall go outdoors until morning. For when the LORD goes by to strike down the Egyptians, seeing the blood on the lintel and the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over that door and not let the destroyer come into your houses to strike you down.
(The hyssop should remind you of offering wine to Jesus on the Cross. Jesus is the new Lamb whose blood has saved us)
How joyful the Israelites must have (or at least should have) been! Finally, after generations of oppression they were leaving Egypt. God had shown that he was on their side with many signs to them and to Pharaoh. And tonight they were to eat their last meal in slavery, wait for the avenging angel to bring down a curse on Egypt while passing over those who had eaten the meal, then they would march out—they would throw off the yoke of slavery. They would be free. When was the last time we felt such joy, such anticipation?
Thought: Am I waiting in joyful hope for the coming of my savoir, Jesus Christ?
