2nd Tuesday of Advent December 10, 2024 Ruth Symbol=Heart
Ruth threw herself at the feet of her kinsman hoping for protection. She was a humble and hard-working immigrant and refugee from famine. She went on to become the great-grandmother of King David. We have many hard-working immigrants and refugees in the U.S. They have risked their lives to escape the “famine” of their home countries to America asking for protection with humility. They pick our fruits and vegetables, clean hotel and office rooms, even raise our children. America has been strengthened and blessed by the many talented hard-working immigrants living and working here. We native born Americans, who came from immigrant stock, must not demonize these newer arrivals! Instead, remember to bless them and work toward making their lives better, and helping to open the doors of America with a warm welcome to those striving to come. Next time you shop for produce or check into a clean hotel room give thanks. The persons who picked that produce or scrubbed the toilet may turn out to be the grandmother or grandfather of a future great U.S. statesman or Nobel Prize winner. Question: Do I ever think about those who toil so I can have asparagus for dinner? Book of Ruth
