3rd Sunday of Advent December 15, 2024 Elijah Symbol=Fire
Elijah had a tough life—living in the desert and running for his life because he proclaimed uncomfortable truths. He suffered because no one wants their faults pointed out to them. As a nation, we are not listening to those calling for us to be better stewards of air and water and use cleaner energy sources. Our disregard for these warnings is destroying the Earth and contributing to the violent weather and fires that ravage the land. We don’t listen and heed because it would require changes in our lifestyles that we would rather not make. The Earth won’t implode during our lifetime, so why worry, we say. Selfish of us. Elijah was caught up in a whirlwind of fire and taken to heaven, while we are just burning bridges in our willful disregard for God’s creation. Question: Am I taking steps to help curb climate change? 2 Kings 2:9-12
