Today we celebrate the Chair of Peter, our first shepherd. Being compared to sheep is not a flattering thing. Sheep are not overly bright, which is why they need a shepherd. In many stories from the Gospels, Peter is not overly bright either. I find that comforting. Jesus never gave up on Peter, even after the three-fold denial. Would that I’ve only denied Jesus three times! The psalm today is 23. In it we are assured that we will be well pastured, watered, and loved no matter. Even very human Peter went on to become the first Pope. I wonder what God has in store for me? Refresh my soul, Lord, that I can do your will.
