Friday 2nd Week of Lent March 5, 2021

“A landowner planted a vineyard.” Matt 21. …and the landowner was God. Guess who the vineyard is? You know grape vines must be pruned. They must be pruned hard to get rid of old unproductive branches so new fruitful branches can grow and mature. Maybe I need some hard pruning. Maybe I need to look at all the twining twisting old unproductive branches I’ve let grow out of control over the years. Lent is just the time to allow the vinedresser (God) do some hard pruning. It will be painful and I won’t like it, I’m sure. There may even be some tears that fall. When I look at the pile of dead growth pruned away, maybe I can look forward to the new me that will grow. It won’t be easy, but growth–real growth, never is.
