Palm Sunday April 10, 2022
Today we enter into the most sacred week of our year—Holy Week. Palm Sunday is the first of many solemn liturgies that will follow Jesus’ final days leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection. We begin today with Luke’s account of how Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem as a king. We sing ‘Hosannah to the Son of David, the King of Israel’. But quickly we move to a reading of the Passion account by Luke. The same people who lined the streets of Jerusalem shouting for joy at the coming of Jesus, now stand mocking him and calling for his death. This is foreshadowed by the readings from Isaiah and Psalm 22. The words are hard to read because of their brutality. Even sadder, they came true. Today is humanity in a nutshell—fickle. We profess Jesus as our king one minute and disown him the next. Today is powerful. This whole week is powerful. Be sure to attend all the liturgies this week. It will make Easter all the more glorious!
