Thursday 1st Week of Lent Feb 25, 2021

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to knock and the door will be opened, ask and you shall receive. In the first reading, Queen Esther begs the Lord for the right words to persuade the minds of her foes. Words are powerful, but Jesus says we need only knock, no words are necessary. They are not necessary because the Father knows what we need before we even ask. Yet we need words. They are the key to the door (of our hearts and to the Father). But we must knock first. And we must knock with the conviction that indeed the door will be opened. When the door is opened, and we are in the presence of the Father, then we can use words. Eloquence is not required, just an unlocked heart. God will give us the words, just as he did for Queen Esther.
