What a wonderful invitation we are offered today. Jeremiah speaks the consoling words of God “I will be your God and you shall be my people.” God will walk with us! Jesus in the Gospel excerpt from Luke calls “…whoever does not gather with me scatters.” The psalm calls us to ‘Come and sing joyful song to the Lord.” We are expected to be busy with singing and gathering as we walk this journey called life. Ever wonder what we are supposed to gather? Well, I do! I suspect that just as the disciples were called to be “fishers of men” so am I. And just how big is the net needed to catch people? Wouldn’t it be hard to cast such a net? No, not really. I’m guessing I don’t need a net. And the distance that I cast is no farther that the folks I encounter on any given day. This journey that I call life, is all about how I live it. As I’ve said in earlier posts, my life must draw people to God, not repel. If I accept the invitation to be God’s own, then I also must accept the invitation to gather others to Jesus. That sounds like a tall task. It is! So, my friends, let us walk this path together and lighten the load for each other. Many hands make light work after all.
