“When you do these things, shall I be deaf to it?” Ps 50 https://bible.usccb.org/readings/calendarIsaiah, the Psalmist, and Jesus are warning us that we must be mindful of our motivations. If we do deeds to receive praise from others, then God may turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to us. Glory and praise for ourselves is a hollow reason, no matter how much good comes of it. St. Teresa of of Calcutta told a story of a man who wanted to help so as to pad his resume’. She asked him to wash a man just brought in who was covered in dirt and his own filth. Unwillingly and grumbling to himself, he began to wash the man. Suddenly the filthy man became Jesus in his arms. At that moment, the task became a labor of love. God hears us when we see him in everyone.
