Who can say no to the king? It had to have been flattering to be noticed and desired by the king. Yet, Bathsheba’s actions were wrong, she was a married woman. But how do you say no to the king? You can’t, he has all the power, so Bathsheba consented and she had become pregnant. Her husband was killed at the king’s orders. Their love child died. The king mourned. Another child, a son, was born to them after King David begged for forgiveness. That son, Soloman, became great in his own right and is another member of Jesus’ family tree.
Prayer: O God, when I find myself confronted with a situation where the right decision seems impossible, give me courage. When I know I have done wrong, give me sincere contrition. Once forgiven, give me wisdom that I may not fall again.
