Matthew 26:14-25: What caused Judas to do it? We will never know for sure. The conjectures are too easy, too pat—thievery, jealousy, impatience. It was probably more complicated that any of those. Whatever the motive, how grieved Jesus must have been to be betrayed by one of his own. Ever been betrayed—let down—by a loved one? It hurts. When someone we thought we knew turns out to be something other than that, the reality is painful. No one is perfect—only Jesus. He would have forgiven Judas. Can we forgive?
