Wednesday Week 2 of Lent March 19, 2025
Today is the feast of St. Joseph, Spouse of Mary, earthly father to Jesus. Joseph is the hero of Matthew’s Infancy Narrative, yet he never says a word! Nowhere in the Gospels does he speak. Joseph is the perfect example of ‘Actions speak louder than words.’ He did what needed to be done without seeking praise. We know nothing about him before or much after Jesus’ birth. What we think we know has been gleaned from statements by others later in the Gospels. The main thing to me about St. Joseph is that with no fanfare, he quietly did what was required, making him a great role model, not only for men, but for all of us. Doing what needs to be done quietly, not for praise or glory, is a way to better the world, our communities, our homes. Follow St. Joseph’s lead. For a fictionalized story of St. Joseph read my book, Yosef’s Path.
