I love the assurance we are given by the prophet Isaiah in today’s reading (Is58:9b-14) “…the Lord will guide you always and give you plenty even on the parched land.” The response for Psalm 86 is “Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.” And Jesus says to Levi, the tax collector in the Gospel from Luke (Luke 5:27-32) “Follow me.” There is a whole lot of movement in the scriptures today. I guess I must always be on the move—moving toward God. Because if I don’t move toward God, I run the risk of moving away. That is why the assurance that “the Lord will always guide” is so wonderful. What better guide is there than Jesus. His call to “Follow me” suggests that he is happy to be my guide. In fact, Jesus may even desire me to follow, or even walk at his side. The Psalm suggests that a bit of instruction will be required. I pray that I am an apt pupil, so I can begin to walk with Jesus in his ways.
