An Easter Wednesday Thought

One of the most moving of the resurrection stories is today’s Gospel. https://bible.usccb.org/readings/calendar. The story from Luke’s Gospel of two disciples walking to Emmaus. Jesus joins them, but they do not recognize him until after they invite him to break bread with them. I got to wondering, is that how we must recognize Jesus in our midst—by inviting people to share a meal or by sharing our bounty with others in some form? Is Jesus most present to us in the afflicted, the sick, the lonely, the poor? Yes, today’s Gospel has a Eucharistic meaning as well, but if we cannot recognize Jesus in those around us who need to be fed in some way, how will we recognize him in a wafer of bread? Do an act of kindness today. Feed someone who is hungry in some way and see Jesus.   April 7, 2021
