December 27, 2020 Shepherds Luke 2:15-16
When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
(Shepherds were low-class and ignorant. Luke uses them to remind us that Jesus came for everybody)
It was cold that night and still
Time to move the sheep down the hill
Into the valley for the winter
Our fire was dying as we lay down
On that hill above the town
To sleep among the sheep
Just an ordinary night
The stars were so bright
That they appeared to move closer
Were they singing a song?
We sat up. We hummed along
We could understand the stars!
Angelic voices compelling
Good news in us swelling
We ran down into the valley
Into Bethlehem to find
Something too great for our mind
But we sang with the stars anyway
