One of the most beautiful lines in all of sacred scripture is found in today’s reading from the prophet Jeremiah, “I will be your God and you shall be my people.” I find that to be so … well, it is hard to put into words. Maybe “comforting” works, maybe “thrilling”, “wonderful”, “awesome”—all work, too. I never fail to have my breath taken away at these words. Then it is with joy that we sing to the Lord, the rock who saves us as the Palmist proclaims in Psalm 95. Jesus explains in Luke’s Gospel that as long as we cover ourselves with God’s armor, i.e., follow his ways, we will never be overwhelmed. This is just what we need to hear as we reach the halfway point of Lent. How are you doing so far? Are you having a good Lent? I pray that you are. Please pray for me, too.
