Tuesday of Holy Week

April 12, 2022

“The Lord called me from birth, from my mother’s womb” announces the prophet Isaiah in another excerpt from his Suffering Servant Songs in today’s reading. The Psalmist declares, “On You I depend from birth, from my mother’s womb You are my strength.” We know from the Infancy narratives of Matthew and Luke, that Jesus was chosen before birth. Of course he was!! He was God’s son, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, set aside to save the world as his name, Joshua (Hebrew form of Jesus) means “God saves”. Today, Jesus claims his role by telling is followers that “Now is the Son of Man glorified.” He is about to set out on the path to the culmination of his life’s work—our redemption. Did you ever think that you have been set apart before you were born for something special? Do you believe that there is something only you can do—the reason you were born, your life’s work? Everyone has a job to do to bring about the Kingdom of God. It is up to us to either accept that task or walk away from it. The choice is ours.

On a different note, today Jeff and I celebrate 42 years of marriage. God has been good to us.
