I am finding it hard to select one phrase from today’s readings. There are several images that leapt out at me. The prophet Isaiah speaks of the care we will be given as we make the journey toward God. We may hunger or thirst, physically, but our spiritual wants will be satisfied. We will be loved and nurtured as a mother nurtures her child. The beautiful psalm reiterates that same promise. The image of shepherds and nursing mothers comes to mind. Then John’s Gospel promises that all who listen to the voice of Jesus and believe in the Father who sent him will have Eternal Life—will come out of their tombs at the sound of his voice. As we close in on the last weeks of Lent, readings like this are sort of a booster shot for us who may be tiring of Lent’s disciplines. Today I just need to put one foot in front of the other. Easter is not far away. My goal of Everlasting Life is assured if I keep striving. I need to check the condition of my hiking boots are as I will still be needing them. My shepherd beckons. I still have a trek in front of me. Come join me.
