December 23 Joseph Carpenter Tools
Joseph is the hero of Matthew’s Gospel. He is also in Luke’s infancy narrative, but not it’s hero. He is given a large role in Matthew, but one interesting fact is that he never says a word. Joeseph does not speak anywhere in sacred scripture. He dreams, follows Gabriel’s instructions, removes Jesus from Herod’s intended harm by going to Egypt all in silence. Joseph is the prototype of the strong silent man.
Prayer: O God, keep me mindful that words are seldom needed when I am in your presence. If I quiet myself, you will talk to me. Help me to be more like Joseph who did your will quietly and faithfully.
O Emmanuel (God is with us) our king and our lawgiver, the hope of nations and their Savior. Come and save us, O Lord our God.
