Friday December 10, 2021 Jesse Tree- Ruth Matt11: 16-19
Today, Jesus laments that we do not know what we want in a Savior. He likens us to people who will not dance to a happy tune nor cry to a sad one—his herald, John, was too pious for many, but Jesus is scorned for being too human. Only with the eyes of wisdom can we recognize the truth. The Jesse Tree ornament today symbolizes Ruth, a Moabite, therefore a foreigner. Ruth was a woman filled with wisdom because she saw what she was to do. She was called to fidelity to a God she didn’t even know, yet she recognized the truth. Ruth was rewarded for her clear sight by becoming the great grandmother of King David. Ruth is among a few women mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel. She is a model of kindness and fidelity. Are we? She recognized her God and Savior. Do we?
