Tuesday Week Three of Advent

Tuesday December 14, 2021 Jesse Tree- Bathsheba Zephaniah 3:1-2,9-13

The readings for today are about returning to God. Zephaniah promises the disobedient cities of his time that the Lord God will purify them—taking away their shame. We are giving the same promise. Jesus’ parable is about how the son who changes his mind to obey his father’s command is blessed for his change of heart. We are given many chances to have changes of heart and to atone and that is a good thing. Our Jesse Tree addition, Bathsheba (the wife of another man), was caught up in King David’s bad behavior. She paid a heavy price for that in the death of their lovechild. But it is though Bathsheba the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel goes. She is another story of redemption. If God can make something good come from the rebellious cities in Zephaniah, the rebellious son in Jesus’ parable, and Bathsheba, there is hope for us.
