6th Day of Advent

6.) December 4, 2020  Jacob  Gen 28:12-15

Then he had a dream: a stairway rested on the ground, with its top reaching to the heavens; and God’s angels were going up and down on it. And there was the LORD standing beside him and saying: I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you are lying I will give to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and through them you will spread to the west and the east, to the north and the south. In you and your descendants all the families of the earth will find blessing. I am with you and will protect you wherever you go, and bring you back to this land. I will never leave you until I have done what I promised you.

(Jacob was the father of 12 sons, twin of Esau, and a bit of a devious man. Still God used him to do amazing things)

When I reflect back on that promise from God, I am awed. I deserve nothing from God. I’ve lied and cheated. Yet God blessed me with the promise of his eternal presence. In every hardship, every sorrow, every crisis in my life, God was always with me. God kept the promise and more, because I did father a large family and lived in prosperity on my land. But more importantly, God was ever a force— a force for good and never left my side. Yes, I am awed.

Thought: Do I feel and know your presence in my daily life?
