December 11 Joseph Colorful Coat

Was he spoiled being the only child of his favorite wife? His brothers sure thought so. He was the baby of a large family until Benjamin was born after Joseph had been sold for twenty silver pieces and sent to Egypt, by his resentful brothers. Joseph’s gift of dreams and their meanings was both a bad thing that got him into trouble with his brothers and a good thing that allowed him to save a nation while working for Pharaoh. His story should remind us of several New Testament facts. Jesus’ earthly father, another Joseph, had dreams, saved a life by going to Egypt, and Jesus was sold for silver, too.

Prayer: O God, do you still talk to us in dreams? Do seemingly spoiled, insignificant people speak a message we need to hear? Help me to be open to your word, even if it comes from a spokesperson I least expect.
