December 14 Hannah Wine Glass
Hannah knew shame—she was childless in a culture that prized motherhood as the only reason for women to exist. Her shame was so great that she cried and prayed silently, though her lips moved, causing the priest to want her gone thinking she was drunk. It took great trust to tell the priest, a man, why she was distressed. Expecting yet more scorn, she was surprised when, instead, he made a promise that God would bless her with a son. Hannah believed him and yes, she bore a son.
Prayer: O God, I feel ashamed sometimes about what I have done or what I have failed to do. Send your Spirit to me that bolstered by her gifts of knowledge, wisdom, and courage, I can turn to you in faith and be healed.
