December 15 David Crown
The youngest, a shepherd, and a flawed man. Yet keeping with so many others, God used him despite his flaws. David became a great king, leading the Israelites for a very long time. He led well. Jesus fulfilled the prophecy that the Messiah would come from King David’s line. Matthew’s Gospel traces Joseph’s lineage back to King David proving once again that God writes straight with crooked lines.
Prayer: O God, you are a God of surprises. You work your will in the most unlikely ways. Help me to be always mindful of how you surprise me—to see your hand in even the tiniest most insignificant moments of my day. You are always at work in my life. Thank you.
